Skype Classic Crashes on Windows 10

Just wanted to share a reproducible issue on my laptop. I have a Windows 10 OS running on my laptop with the latest version of Skype Classic running on it. I have not had any issues until today my whole machine went to a Blue Screen death when I try to accept/call my skype contacts. Most interestingly, even after reboot, if you try calling from Skype Classic, the machine crashes again.

The Event Viewer report a BugCheck error for which I am totally clueless.

SOLUTION 1 (If you are fine with using the Microsoft Store Skype App alternative)

  1. Uninstall the Skype Classic from my machine
  2. Download & install the Skype app from Windows Store.

As of now, the Skype App works beautifully well. In fact, I love the Skype app because it has many skins (Light, Dark) which are very soothing to your eyes.

SOLUTION 2 (I don’t want to uninstall the skype. Instead fix the issue)

  1. Quit Skype.
  2. Press Windows key + on your keyboard at the same time. Type %appdata% in the run dialog box.
  3. Open Skype folder and delete shared.xml file.
  4. In the same folder, look for your Skype name and open it then delete config file.
  5. Restart your computer.
  6. Re-launch Skype and make a test call.

SOLUTION 3 (If Solution 1/Solution 2 doesn’t work, try this one)

  1. Quit Skype
  2. Uninstall Skype Classic
  3. Press Windows key + on your keyboard at the same time. Type %appdata% in the run dialog box.
  4. Delete Skype folder itself
  5. Re-download Skype Classic & install it

I hope this small post will help you guys, in case you encounter this issue.
